How To Replace A Vehicle Battery

Hello, my name is Matthew Sauer, and I am the product manager for Canadian Energy's SLI category. Today, we are going to be replacing the battery in this Toyota 4Runner as the current battery is not holding a charge.

When a battery is not holding a charge, it means that it's running out of capacity to store the charge. This leads to the battery being unable to start the engine, leaving you with nothing when you turn the key in the morning. To replace the battery, we will begin by removing the J-hooks from the battery hold-down and loosening the nuts on the negative terminal using a 10mm socket.  Most vehicles will use a 10mm to 13mm nut on their battery hold-downs.

It's important to be careful when pulling the battery out, making sure not to hit anything or rip any cables out. Additionally, when replacing the battery, we need to clean the battery tray to remove any pebbles or rocks that could puncture the battery cells in the case of flooded batteries.

To replace the existing battery, we will be using the Discover MIXTECH EFB battery, which is designed to handle the high auxiliary loads required by this application. The battery has a handle, which makes it easier to install, but it's still important to be cautious and make sure the battery is not sitting on any cables when installed.

Once the battery is installed, we need to reattach the terminals, hold-down, and J-hooks. We should tighten the terminals without over-tightening and use finger tightening before finalizing the tightening process.

These are the basic steps for changing a vehicle battery. For more information on any of our products, please check out www.cdnrg.com or contact one of our local branches.
